In 1998, Daisy and I went up the Sacramento Delta on our sailboat, and spent a week navigating the many restful canals that meander amongst the trees. The temperature there is much hotter than in San Francisco, which is notable for cold weather, even during the middle of the summer. We purchased our first kayak, and thoroughly enjoyed paddling in these calm and warm water. I was able to go swimming without a wet suit. Imagine that....very unusual in Northern California!
As we explored the various islands in the Delta, we circumnavigated Bethel Island in our Avon dinghy. What a surprise to find a Chris-Craft Captain, much like KITTA IV, its sister-ship which my father owned in Havana in the fifties! This boat needs some work, some loving care,... someone who would want to restore it. But the beauty of its lines comes through, never-the-less. At least for me they do. And looking at it brings back many many wonderful Cuban memories of Havana and Varadero Beach.
